We are all starting this school year with a little bit of uncertainty, and hopefully still a lot of optimism. To help you prepare for the months ahead we wanted to give you some ideas for setting up your at home school workspace. Hopefully, your kids get to do most of their schooling at school, but in the case that they have to be home, having a designated area for schoolwork will help all parties involved!
Let’s start with the essentials:
Desk and Chair - This is a pretty obvious one, but there are some important considerations to factor in. If you can have a separate table, other than the kitchen table. Also if you have more than one child who will be doing homeschooling, try and have their own tables/desks. This will help avoid distractions from table bumps and jiggles. Also, make sure your child likes their seat and it’s comfortable. They could be sitting for a while and you want to make sure they are at the right height for their table.
Supply Caddie - This doesn’t have to be anything fancy, but a little holder for their books, pencils, pens ect. it’s good practice to keep their space clean, clear, and organized. Again, this helps reduce distraction and can help them power through schoolwork.
Chargers - Just a reminder to set up this space close to a plugin so all of their computers and other tech tools can be plugged in!
Some extra ideas:
Trash bin - to keep their space clean and to keep them at their workspace (so they aren’t getting up to go throw something out and then get distracted)
Headphones - in case they have video lessons or zoom calls they won’t distract everyone around them.
Hang up a calendar and checklist to go over what is due each day. This visual is good for both parents and children to stay on track.
Lastly, and maybe most important, you’ll want to include a “Grow & Co. Art Display” board to showcase all of your students best work ;)
This school year the most important thing is to take it day by day and just do the best you can. We are all adjusting and learning how to manage what this “new” way of learning will look like. Just remember you are doing a great job!!
